What’s with the name “John Pierre’s”?
It is actually two first names. The studio itself has a long history in Lahaina, Maui. Originally started by the Nagamine family in the 40’s, the studio was sold to a long time friend Pierre Honings in 1972. At which time the studio was then renamed to Pierre of Lahaina. Several years passed and John was selected to head and build the business. In 1987 Pierre retired and sold the business to John. As the business had become so well known John felt it best to keep some of the old and add the new. This is the evolution of the name John Pierre’s Studio.
There are some colorful side streets to this name history, which John will gladly share if interested.
Lastly, Yes John is 25% French from his mothers side. Funny how it all works!
